Step 1: Get organised
If you are registering a new Motorbike, ensure that you have your identification and evidence of your garaged address.
Ensure you also complete a vehicle registration application form ready for steps 2 & 3.
Step 2: Organise CTP insurance and an inspection
If your vehicle is unregistered and you need to drive on the road to register your vehicle, you cannot legally drive unless you are carrying a CTP certificate and a completed vehicle registration application.
You must contact your chosen CTP insurer and organise a CTP certificate over the phone.
This will then allow you to drive your vehicle to get
a safety certificate at an approved Safety Inspection Station.
Alternatively, if your interstate registration is still current you will be able to drive straight to a Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) Customer Contact Centre without a pre-purchased CTP certificate.
You may be able to obtain a ‘day pass’ to get your car registered in order to get the vehicle inspected. Check with your relevant state authority to see if this is available to you.

Step 3: Registration
Bring all the required documents and your car to a Department of Transport and Main Roads customer service centre to complete the registration process.
Don’t forget a screwdriver as you may need to change the plates!
